Researched history of Alma Spreckles, of the Spreckles sugar fortune. The life of Alma, a determined woman, active arts patron, and socialite. Told as a story with over 80 photos!
Great reading. I love the Maryhill museum along the columbia river in Washington. She had a big hand in the art that was put there.
Her real name was "Spreckels". She was flamboyant, did not follow rules of the rich, and drove a l of people up the wall! The life of a poor girl turned into a super rich woman by marriage.
She did a lot of good but not for the sake of doing good. She like being the center of attention, and ruled the roost so to speak. She was a scandal her whole life.
This is available on amazon for as low as 8.00.
Very good read!
This blog was created for DIY people. Those who want to do it themselves and to share the never ending tips and advice on saving in todays economy. I was raised on a homestead and meager times during the 1950's and 60's. I share family tips for activities, meals, and general household suggestions. Some of the early posts have many others advice to save money on utilities, food etc. Look in the archives.
