This blog was created for DIY people. Those who want to do it themselves and to share the never ending tips and advice on saving in todays economy. I was raised on a homestead and meager times during the 1950's and 60's. I share family tips for activities, meals, and general household suggestions. Some of the early posts have many others advice to save money on utilities, food etc. Look in the archives.

House Hold Tips For Saving YOU money!
I found these were listed in our local newspaper lately. Some were listed when I first started this blog. But well worth repeating:
*Baking soda.
use of a cleaning scrub on all types of things, even butcher blocks, dry the wood afterwards so the wood does not split. Mix a bit into a paste of soda and water and rub silverware clean with a damp cloth. Good for getting rid of odors in trash, refrigerator, (leave open box in there) sprinkle a little on bed pet, clean the toilet with it. Sprinkle on carpet and then vacuum to get rid of odors too.
*Lemon Juice
and vinegar are good disinfecting your vegs and fruits when you bring them home from the store or farmers market. Make it a habit to wash all fruits and vegetables as soon as you get home. you do not know who has touched them with dirty hands!
*Salt:
Place in bag and put your artificial flowers in there. Shake around. Amazing how it cleans all the dust off!
BEST: I have done this for years, Use salt and vinegar on bottom of brass pans to renew the color bright and shiny! Takes off the tarnish. Rinse well.
Even put down drain (salt and vinegar) let sit a bit, then rinse to unclog.
